Recently, a friend posed the question: “What is a good web site?”

A web site that gives you more return calls and with clients that are closer to your expertise is a “good web site”. As a marketer I look for how well the site functions.

As I have spent the last several days looking over psychology today adds, therapist web introductions and in many cases web sites several things have occurred to me.

When I looked at the sites I looked first as a marketer. The question I posed to myself was – is this a site I can help make more efficient? If the answer was no, then I did not send a letter to that person.

Here are some of the criteria that I used:

Is it a full featured web site? The more information on the site the better.
Is the therapist’s “voice” clear? It is important for the reader to hear where this professional comes from in their practice.
As a marketer do I get a sense of who this therapist wants to work with? Each therapist has some strengths, and the site should speak to those strengths very directly.
Is this a site that can be part of a more full featured marketing campaign? The more generic the site is, the less it can be used in a fuller marketing campaign.

Which leads me to a quick note about template based sites. There are literally thousands of companies that offer templates to build a web site. The more customizable the templates are, the better. Overall – template based sites are great. It allows everyone to get a web site up fast. There is a huge downfall with these sites, and that is if the text on the site mirrors text on other sites. IE, you did not write the text on the site yourself. This is a downfall for several reasons. First and foremost – your potential client will not hear “your voice” when browsing your site. So you will not distinguish yourself. The other reason this is not a good idea is that search engines will never pick up sites that use too much repeat information. The search engines are programmed to throw those sites out.

In just two days I have managed to add 18 pages to this blog.

Hello Everyone!

Malene here, which I am sure you know if you are on my blog. This year has been fast paced and with more changes than I am actually comfortable with. At the same time, there is lots of exciting stuff going on in my life as well. So, here comes my blog. I am going to start with this as one blog, although I might break elements of this blog out into other blogs eventually.

After getting separated from my husband in January I was working for a non-profit that helped severely mentally ill people. I am sure most of you can imagine that I loved working with the clientele – with my love of psychology. However, it was overall not a very positive experience. I ended up with a lot more respect for the clients than for the managers of the place – enough said.

So, I had to move on again. I thought of getting a similar job, but found myself in the uncomfortable position that I knew I simply could not make enough money in that field since I am now single. I am still in school and hopefully as I get more education that will change. My end goal of getting the MFT certification has not changed.

So here I am though, wondering – what next? After a lot of soul searching and deep thinking I realized that my best option would be to go back and enhance my sales skills. In the process of doing that I quickly realized that the best income lies in becoming an independent agent that sells a few good products. So, I went in search of such products and found several. In so many ways all these products represents something that really gets me excited.

Traveling - we all know what I feel about traveling. I am on the cusp of becoming a travel agent.

Energy – Natural Gas and Electricity has to be completely deregulated by 2015. This is creating a huge new market for private sellers. This competition that is now hitting the market will introduce competition in two vital aspects of our energy consumption – companies will have to compete on price more renewable energy sources. This is great News! I am certified to sell energy, both Natural Gas and Electricity.

Online Marketing – This topic is so complex and also so fascinating. There are thousands and thousands of “Gurus” out there. Some seem to be successful at it, and others not so much. While I have one service that I can offer already – there are several more to come. I am in the process of getting the certification!

So, I will be selling products within all of these fields – and I am excited. Stay Tuned for more information!
