How To Do All This?

This article will give you a quick how-to in establishing accounts with Facebook, Twitter, Linked-in, YouTube, Online Articles and a blog.

So let me dive right in!

It is easy to establish accounts on all social media websites. They will ask you to answer a few questions like your name, email address etc. Then they establish your account and set a password. A lot of social media sites will ask if you want to send invites to friends to join you. I highly recommend you do this!

Facebook – You have to create a profile and send out the invitations. Follow the instructions on Facebook to do this.The age group on Facebook is very diverse. Currently facebook sees the highest growth from the 35-55 year olds.

Twitter – You have to create a profile and send out invitations. On twitter you can also customize your page with your preferred colors.  Twitter is a slightly younger age group than facebook, but not by much.

Linked in – Creating a profile and inviting people to join you is a little more complex with Linked-in. Linked-in is for professionals and partially function as a resume. The age group here tends to be a little older, because people on Linked in generally have a higher education.

MySpace is for a younger crowd. There are a lot of teens on MySpace, and the age group tends to run the teen to twenties. Like the other social media outlets you have to create an account and establish a profile. Like the others – the site will give you solid directions.

YouTube is easy. Once your account is established you can log in, comment on video’s and post your own video’s. At this time YouTube is the largest search engine on the web. This is huge, YouTube get more monthly searches than Google.

Articles – There are a few places you can post articles. It is good to do this because people go and search for articles that they have permission to use on their own websites or in mailing lists. The agreement is they can post the article, but only with a link back to you. This is a huge way to get back links, and I highly recommend writing around 5 of your best articles and post them on these sites. Ezinearticles is one of the largest. It takes about 7 days to get your article approved.

There are a few ways to get a blog. The easiest and cheapest way is to use WordPress.com. It is free! You can go to their site and establish your account. When you have established your account you will be given a variety of ways to customize your colors and site look, however this is still within very specific parameters given to you be wordpress. WordPress is based on the free software available on wordpress.org. WordPress.com puts in further limitations on their accounts. While I am currently using WordPress.com I suspect that within a couple of months the limitations of this account will become very important, and I have to move the account to a monthly subscription account. With the size of this site it might take me a very long days work to get this done. I chose to start with wordpress.com because it is fast, easy and free. If you choose to take the wordpress software from wordpress.org you can upload it to a variety of servers that support wordpress software. WordPress.org gives some recommendations here. Of those, I plan to choose Dreamhost when I am ready to move the site over. It is only $6.95 a month! It should take you about 7 hours to get your wordpress software installed and your site customized. It is recommended to get a domain name that refers to your business. Once you establish your blog it is important to add as much content to it, as fast as you can. WordPress software on it’s own gives a lot of freedom to add in a ton of “widgets”, small pieces of added software to give a variety of functionality. I suggest taking advantage of this.
